  2. IRTS RADIO NEWS BULLETIN

  6. East Cork AGM
  7.  
  8. The Annual General Meeting of the East Cork Radio Group held on 
  9. Friday January 8th reviewed another very busy year, the highlight 
  10. of which was the hosting of the IRTS AGM in Cobh.
  11.  
  12. Most of the major international contests were entered with varying 
  13. degrees of success and the three IRTS field days were also 
  14. supported.
  15.  
  16. The election of officers resulted in new blood at the top table 
  17. with Mannix EI5HB being elected chairman and Steve EI9HC taking on 
  18. the responsibilities of secretary. Dennis EI6HB retained his 
  19. positions as Treasurer and QSL Manager and Jim EI3DP was promoted 
  20. to the position of Vice-Chairman.

  22. Site manager is Jim EI8GS, PRO is Dave EI4BZ and class co-
  23. ordinators are again Eddie EI6GJ and Dennis EI6HB.
  24.

  26. Development continues at the EI7M station at Poer Head with the 
  27. installation of several beverage antennas currently in progress.
  28.  
  29. The group will be taking part in both of theARRLDX Contests 
  30. during the coming weeks.

  32. New members are very welcome and intending members should contact 
  33. any committee member.

  38. Marconi Exhibition Tralee
  39.  
  40. The Marconi Exhibition, currently on show in Rome will be mounted 
  41. in Tralee, County Kerry from April to September next. 
  42.  
  43. As part of the exhibition, a special event station will be put on 
  44. the air and Tom EI3HH would like to hear from individuals or clubs 
  45. who would be interested in getting involved. 
  46.  
  47. As this will be a long duration event, lots of help will be 
  48. required in the form of station erectors, operators and the loan 
  49. of radio gear.

  54. Blasket Islands with Westnet
  55.  
  56. Now, some advance notice of an operation from the Blasket Islands 
  57. which should be of interest to both IOTA operators and all those 
  58. working towards the Worked All Ireland Award.
  59.  
  60. The Blaskets have a unique IOTA reference number, EU-007 and will 
  61. be activated by the Westnet DX Group during June, with the 7th to 
  62. the 10th being the probable dates. The callsign will be EJ7NET and 
  63. further information will be made available by Declan EI6FR closer 
  64. to the trip.

  66. Working Islands is an intrinsic part of the WAI Awards Scheme and 
  67. groups or individuals are encouraged to put an island on the air. 
  68. Many operators have the required number of squares worked for the 
  69. award and are only waiting for the islands to be activated.

  71. News of any proposed island trips would be appreciated.

  76. EI Activity Day
  77.  
  78. Another early reminder, this time for EI Activity Day 1996, which 
  79. will as usual take place on March 17th next.
  80.  
  81. Luckily, this years St. Patricks Day falls on a Sunday, which 
  82. should give all amateurs a chance to get on the air on the day.
  83.  
  84. Many overseas amateurs are trying for both the WEIC and the WAI 
  85. awards and they look forward to St. Patricks Day each year for 
  86. the extra EI activity.
  87.  
  88. Previous EI Activity Days were very successful, and we hope that 
  89. all active amateurs will make a special effort for this years 
  90. event.
  91.                                                     
  92. The aim will be to get as many counties as possible on air on the 
  93. day and clubs or groups are asked to consider travelling to one of 
  94. the rarer counties for the day.
  95.  
  96. The Worked Al Ireland Award Scheme will add a new dimension this 
  97. year and all stations will be in demand for their squares.

  102. RSGB President installed
  103.  
  104. Congratulations to Peter Sheppard G4EJP who was installed 
  105. yesterday, Saturday 13th at a function in Hull.
  106.  
  107. Among the many distinguished guests present was IRTS President Jim 
  108. Ryan EI3DP. 
  109.  
  110. Jim was one of many National Society Presidents who attended the 
  111. gathering and he availed of the opportunity to discuss with his 
  112. European colleagues many of the current issues facing the hobby.
